Sa'dia Rehman, "The Falls"

For the 2022/23 exhibition season, Buffalo Arts Studio has selected Artist-in-Residence Sa’dia Rehman, a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the structure of family and nation, as well as the borders around and between each. During their residency, Rehman will create an assemblage on and off the walls evoking global histories of broken waterways and broken promises.

Rehman’s exhibition, titled The Falls, will be on display March 24–May 4, and will include work rooted in Rehman’s research on their family’s displacement in 1974 from their village in Pakistan due to the building of the Tarbela Dam on the Indus River. Together, the projected video, observational sketches, sculptures, and imagined architectural floor plans explore memory, grief, and migration, as well as the multiple histories and geographies that can be triggered by a single event.

Sa’dia Rehman (b. Queens, NY) holds an MFA from The Ohio State University and MA from The City College, CUNY. Rehman has exhibited at the Wexner Center for the Arts, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Queens Museum, Columbus Museum of Art, Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU and Pakistan National Council of the Arts.
