Monica Ramirez-Montagut

Mónica Ramírez-Montagut, Ph. D, joined the Parrish Art Museum in the East End of Long Island as Executive Director in June 2022. With a distinguished career in key directorial and curatorial positions at leading cultural institutions across the US, including the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum of Michigan State University, the San Jose Museum of Art in Silicon Valley, the Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University in New Orleans, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in NYC, Ramírez-Montagut has focused on broadening accessibility for myriad communities through programs and exhibitions that serve with depth and commitment local and diverse audiences.

Known as a transformational leader, Ramírez-Montagut has been called upon for her expertise and vision at the national level. She has been appointed by President Biden to the National Museum and Library Services Board (IMLS) advising on the annual nominations for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service. She is a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) US Board of Directors, a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors, a member of the Board of Advisors for Art Omi Pavilions at Chatham and a member of a several local arts organizations in the East End of Long Island. A frequent juror and advisor, she has served on national panels for foundations, artists residencies, and awards and has been a peer reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts and the US Federal Advisory Committee on International Exhibitions such as the Venice Biennales for art and architecture.

A prolific author, Ramírez-Montagut’s select publications include: KAWS (Rizzoli); Erik Parker: Colorful Resistance (Rizzoli); Revisiting the Glass House: Contemporary Art and Modern Architecture (Yale); Claiming Space: Mexican Americans in U.S. Cities (UTEP); Zaha Hadid (Guggenheim); and Building It Wright!—a bilingual (English/Spanish) coloring book for children.

Ramírez-Montagut, who now lives in Sag Harbor (Southampton), earned a Suma Cum Laude Ph.D. in Theory and History of Architecture from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, ETSAB, Barcelona, Spain; a Master of Architecture from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, ETSAB, Barcelona, Spain; and a Bachelor of Architecture from Universidad Ibero Americana, Mexico City, Mexico.
